Kanpur: late on Saturday, unidentified villains tried to rob cash from an ATM at Union Bank of India, but did not take it away.
However, they damaged CCTV cameras before fleeing the scene.
When no security personnel were found inside and around the ATM, they tried to rob cash.
They managed to break the shell of the ATM with the help of the iron bar, but failed to open the money box.
The incident came to light Sunday morning when locals found that the slot machine had broken and informed police of the incident.
They claimed that security guards in drunken condition left the ATM without locking.
Police arrived at the scene and began to investigate the incident.
The hard drive of CCTV cameras has been seized by police.
Inspectors at the Kalyanpur police station said that at night, some unidentified gangsters tried to break the ATM with iron bars after seeing the ATM without any security guards, but they did not take out the cash.
"Out of frustration, they broke the CCTV cameras installed in the room and fled the scene," the inspector said . ".
He added that after registering a case against the gangster, the police had started investigating.
Officials at the United Bank say there are 20 rupees in the cash box of the ATM.
