10 Signs You Need Corrosion Inhibitors

If you're involved in the manufacture of components, or lubricants, or even paints then you're probably aware of why corrosion inhibitors are so important. If you're not, then here's why you might need them. 1. If you make vehicle fluids, such as brake fluids, or engine coolants, then you need them to work with metal components. The consequences of brakes or steering failing because of rust and corrosion could be disastrous. 2. It's essential that the lubrication for metal engine parts contains corrosion inhibitors. Without them, the lubrication would damage the metal parts it's supposed to protect. 3. If you're involved in the manufacture of fuels then you'll know how much contact your fuel has with metal. From the metal containers in the refinery, to the delivery tankers, fuel pumps on the forecourt, and the metal fuel tank in the vehicle, there is strong chance that the metal will corrode without the right protection. 4. Domestic lubricants, such as those designed to stop doors from squeaking, for oiling bike chains, or for stopping scissors or garden equipment from seizing up and sticking also need corrosion inhibitors. If you make or use domestic lubricants, then you'll need to make sure that they don't rust the metal they are protecting. 5. Storage tanks such as those for water, fuel or other liquids will need to be protected against rust and corrosion so that they are safe and durable, don't need replacing as often. If you make or use storage tanks, are you adequately protected? 6. Metal pipes that are used for transports liquids will need to be treated so that the liquids don't rust the pipes. Having adequate corrosion inhibitors will ensure that your pipes don't rust. When was the last time you checked your metal pipes for rust? 7. Metal products used in the construction of buildings will need to be treated. Think about door handles, garage doors and other exposed metal. What would happen to these when it rained without them being treated with corrosion inhibitors? Are your metal parts going to corrode? 8. If you're involved with water systems of any sort, then you'll want to make sure that the pipes and storage tanks, and any other part of the processing plant isn't subjected to corrosion. Using the appropriate rust protection will help guard against rust. Have you got the right level of protection? 9. Unsurprisingly, paints need to contain corrosion inhibitors, so that they can be used on metal parts and structures, and don't cause them to rust. If you paint vehicles, or oil rigs, or bridges, then you'll know how important protection against the elements is too. Are the paints you're using up to the task? 10. Domestic and commercial heating systems also need to be protected against corrosion. Radiators and boilers wouldn't last very long if the water circulating and heating the building caused them to rust. Are your heating products suitably treated? Now you know why corrosion inhibitors are so important, and why you might need them, are your products in danger of causing corrosion or rusting away?
